Arianna Huffington – Co-Founder of Huffington Post: Epstein Tried to Recruit to “Clean” His Reputation l

Picture this: In the summer of 2011, Jeffrey Epstein—fresh off his controversial plea deal and desperate to scrub his tarnished image—fires off an email to elite publicist Peggy Siegal with a brazen request: Reach out to Arianna Huffington, the powerhouse co-founder of Huffington Post, and get her to champion the “dangers of false allegations” by sending reporters to investigate one of his most vocal accusers, Virginia Giuffre.

Epstein even rewrote his pitch for better grammar so Siegal could forward it directly. The plan? Turn a major progressive media outlet into an unwitting tool to discredit claims and restore his reputation.

The shocking reality: Huffington was never contacted, no reporter was ever dispatched, and Siegal later called the whole idea “moronic,” insisting she never passed it on. Yet the email exchange reveals just how far Epstein would go to manipulate the media narrative through high-society connections.

In an era when digital giants shaped public opinion, how close did Epstein come to pulling strings at one of the biggest online news platforms—and what other desperate maneuvers lurk in those released documents?

In the summer of 2011, Jeffrey Epstein—still navigating the fallout from his 2008 controversial plea deal for procuring a minor for prostitution—was desperate to rehabilitate his image amid mounting scrutiny. Fresh accusations from Virginia Giuffre (then Virginia Roberts), who alleged she had been trafficked by Epstein and implicated Prince Andrew, threatened to unravel his carefully curated elite facade. In a brazen bid to counter the narrative, Epstein turned to prominent New York publicist Peggy Siegal, emailing her in July with a calculated request: contact Arianna Huffington, co-founder and editor-in-chief of the influential Huffington Post, and urge her to champion “the dangers of false allegations” by dispatching reporters to investigate Giuffre.

Epstein’s pitch was explicit and manipulative. In one message, he suggested Huffington highlight how accusers like Giuffre—whom he falsely described as having a “long criminal record,” never being 15, and working as a mere “telephone answerer” at Mar-a-Lago—could be discredited. He even claimed “the palace would love it,” implying Buckingham Palace might welcome a takedown of Giuffre’s claims against Andrew. Epstein rewrote his own poorly phrased draft for better grammar at Siegal’s insistence, so she could forward it directly from herself. The goal: weaponize one of the era’s most prominent progressive digital platforms—HuffPost, with its massive reach and left-leaning audience—to sow doubt and shift public perception.

The scheme collapsed before it began. Huffington was never contacted. No reporters were assigned. Siegal, in later interviews with outlets like Politico, The Guardian, and the BBC, dismissed the idea as “moronic” and “preposterous,” insisting she never passed the message along. “I had no reason to call her,” she told The Guardian, emphasizing her professional relationship with Huffington and refusal to risk it for Epstein’s “idiotic nefarious affairs.” Huffington herself confirmed to Politico: “I was never contacted and never sent a reporter.”

The exchange, among thousands of Epstein emails released in November 2025 by the House Oversight Committee, exposes his relentless post-conviction efforts to manipulate media narratives through high-society conduits. Siegal, a fixture in elite Hollywood and New York circles who had helped Epstein re-enter social scenes after his release, represented just one avenue. These documents—spanning over a decade—reveal coordinated attempts to influence search results, journalists, and public opinion, even as Epstein remained a registered sex offender.

In an era when digital giants like HuffPost increasingly shaped discourse, Epstein came perilously close to exploiting those levers. Had Siegal forwarded the email, or Huffington entertained the pitch, it might have amplified smears against Giuffre and shielded powerful associates. The failure underscores the limits of his influence post-scandal—but also the audacity of his maneuvers. As more files surface, they peel back layers of a bygone elite world where access, favors, and reputation laundering intertwined freely—until scrutiny finally exposed the desperation beneath.
