The Unanswered Tragedy: Alan Yu and the Shadow Over EE-Media’s Young Stars
Beloved Chinese actor Yu Menglong, known globally as Alan Yu, tragically died on September 11, 2025, at age 37 after falling from a high-rise in Beijing. Authorities quickly ruled it an accidental fall linked to intoxication, with police excluding foul play. Yet, three months later, intense online speculation, leaked materials, and heavy censorship have transformed his death into a symbol of distrust toward China’s entertainment industry.

Yu’s case painfully echoes a disturbing pattern at his former agency, Tianyu Media (EE-Media). Over two decades, at least eight other young artists connected to the company died or vanished under suspicious circumstances, often involving falls, sudden accidents, or unexplained causes. Reports from outlets like Koreaboo and The Economic Times list these tragedies:
- Singer Tan Beixi in a bizarre 2006 car crash
- Actor Shang Yubo falling from a rooftop in 2011 after hours of wandering
- Rising star Bian Ce plummeting from a Tianjin building in 2015
- Singer-actor Qiao Renliang found dead in 2016, officially suicide
- Actress Jiao Ren in a 2017 hotel fall while intoxicated
- Actress Lu Jiayong disappearing in 2019 amid industry stress posts
- Singer Cai Chong dying suddenly in 2020 with little explanation
Yu’s death makes him the ninth, intensifying accusations of exploitative contracts, mental health neglect, or deeper abuses. Some cases tie to the same agent, Du Qiang, criticized for harsh treatment.
Official narratives attribute these to isolated issues like alcohol or depression, but recurring falls and rapid case closures spark doubts. Leaked videos, audio of alleged torture, and civilian investigations challenge timelines—some suggest Yu died earlier than reported. Petitions for independent probes exceed 700,000 signatures, with diaspora protests and coded online resistance evading censors.
China’s cutthroat entertainment world demands grueling schedules and scrutiny, leaving talents vulnerable. When investigations lack transparency and dissent faces suppression—including account bans and arrests—public anger grows. Yu’s gentle, philanthropic image amplified the outrage, turning grief into demands for accountability.
As whispers turn to widespread calls for truth, the question lingers: Will this accumulating list of lost stars finally compel a thorough, unbiased investigation? Until transparency prevails, the industry’s glamorous facade will hide enduring shadows, and fans will mourn not just irreplaceable talents, but silenced voices.
