In the shadow of the iconic Arc de Triomphe, where luxury and glamour reign supreme, a lavish apartment on Avenue Foch—once Jeffrey Epstein’s secret Parisian hideaway—has suddenly become ground zero for a seismic scandal shaking France to its core.

This week, Paris prosecutors launched two explosive investigations after millions of newly released Epstein files flooded the public domain: one zeroing in on human trafficking and the recruitment of victims for sexual exploitation, the other targeting financial crimes including money laundering, tax fraud, and breaches of probity linked to his elite connections.

With flight logs, emails, and survivor complaints now in hand, investigators are calling on potential French victims to step forward, while high-profile names—from former ministers to influential figures—face growing scrutiny. How deep does this web of power, privilege, and predation run?

In the shadow of the iconic Arc de Triomphe, where luxury boutiques and grand Haussmann buildings define Parisian elegance, a lavish apartment on Avenue Foch—once Jeffrey Epstein’s secretive Parisian hideaway—has emerged as the epicenter of a scandal rocking France. This opulent 18-room, nearly 800-square-meter residence at number 22, purchased by the late financier in 2001, overlooked one of the world’s most famous landmarks yet concealed a far darker reality.

Epstein, who visited Paris over 170 times, used the property as his European base until his death in 2019. Recently released photographs from a 2019 French police search, now resurfacing amid fresh scrutiny, reveal interiors drenched in vivid red, orange, and pink hues. Framed images of nude or semi-nude young women adorn the walls, alongside massage tables, sex toys, stuffed animals, and other unsettling items—elements that investigators suspect were tied to sexual exploitation and abuse.

The storm intensified this week following the U.S. Department of Justice’s release of nearly three million pages of Epstein-related files on January 30, 2026. On February 18, Paris Prosecutor Laure Beccuau announced two formal “framework investigations.” One targets human trafficking, encompassing the recruitment, solicitation, and exploitation of victims for sexual purposes. The other probes financial crimes, including money laundering, tax fraud, corruption, and breaches of probity linked to Epstein’s elite network.

Five specialized magistrates are leading the effort, drawing on flight logs, emails, survivor testimonies, media reports, and new complaints from child protection organizations. Beccuau has made a public appeal for victims—especially those in France or involving French nationals—to come forward, emphasizing jurisdiction over acts committed abroad if perpetrators or victims are French.

The Avenue Foch apartment, sold in 2022 for about $10.4 million to a Bulgarian businessman, remains symbolically central. Testimonies, including one from a French woman in 2022, describe being lured there under the guise of modeling opportunities, hired as an “assistant,” and then allegedly subjected to repeated rapes by Epstein, who reportedly called her his “slave.” Prior inquiries, such as the closed case against Epstein associate Jean-Luc Brunel (who died by suicide in 2022 while facing rape and trafficking charges), are being revisited.

The probe’s reach extends to influential French figures. Former Culture Minister Jack Lang and his daughter Caroline have faced scrutiny, including raids and a preliminary investigation into suspected laundering of tax-fraud proceeds tied to Epstein connections. Emails show frequent interactions, with Epstein providing favors like private plane use. Other names from politics, diplomacy, and luxury circles appear in the files, fueling speculation about how deeply this web of power, privilege, and predation runs through French society.

As investigators comb through the “titanic” volume of evidence, the Avenue Foch property stands as a haunting reminder: beneath the glamour of Paris’s elite addresses lurked potential horrors. With survivors urged to speak and high-profile connections under the microscope, France grapples with uncomfortable truths. The question now is not just what secrets the apartment held, but how far the fallout will spread—and whether justice will finally pierce the veil of influence that shielded Epstein’s network for so long.
